Riot Games has announced that Valorant has crossed the 14 million active players milestone. According to a press release, around half a billion games were played in the year since its June 2020 release.
The popularity of Valorant can be attributed to the support of esports events around the game. With events like Riot’s own Valorant Champion’s Tour, as well as regional events like TEC Gauntlet in India, which was announced back in May, Valorant has been quite popular, especially fans of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Valorant’s nature as high-quality a free-to-play game with low hardware requirements also undoubtedly had a big impact on its popularity.
“One of our top goals this first year was to earn the trust and respect of the global FPS community, and to prove to them that Valorant will always uphold the fundamentals of a truly worthwhile competitive tac-shooter,” said Valorant’s executive producer Anna Donlon in the press release. “To see our growing player community recognize and appreciate what we’re trying to do with Valorant is beyond what we could’ve expected and we’re thrilled to soon offer the same competitive Valorant experience to even more global players.”
Riot also recently announced that Valorant will be making its way to mobile. While the company has revealed too many details about it, Donlon said, “we’re thrilled to soon offer the same competitive Valorant experience to even more global players.”
We expect more details about Valorant on mobiles to become available later this year. For more details on Valorant, check out our review.
