Last week, PlayStation hosted a State of Play stream focusing on Horizon Forbidden West. Sony showed off almost 14 minutes of gameplay from Horizon Forbidden West, but didn’t reveal the release date. This led many fans to believe that the game won’t release in 2021.
Thanks for watching our #HorizonForbiddenWest gameplay reveal! We don’t have an exact release date just yet, but development is on track and we will have an update for you very soon – thank you as always for your ongoing support!

Developer Guerilla Games offered an update on the Horizon Forbidden West release date via Twitter. The developer said, “We don’t have an exact release date just yet, but development is on track and we will have an update for you very soon.” The Horizon Forbidden West State of Play was the most-watched State of Play broadcast focused on a single game, according to independent market analyst Benji-Sales. In just three hours, Horizon Forbidden West State of Play had 2.3 million views, followed by Demons Souls and Ghost of Tsushima with 2.2 million views and 1.9 million, respectively.
During the gameplay reveal, Sony offered first look at new tools, machines, and combat techniques in Horizon Forbidden West. The protagonist Aloy gets Pullcaster, a hookshot-type tool that lets her speed up climbing and reach distant points to avoid danger. She also gets the Shieldwing glider that helps her descend safely from great heights and a diving mask that allows her to swim underwater as long as she needs.
Horizon Forbidden West picks up six months after the events of Horizon Zero Dawn, where Aloy has travelled west to learn more about a “mysterious and deadly blight.” The game will also feature returning characters like Erend and a rebel faction called Tenakth tribe.
