Krafton has announced that pre-registrations for the upcoming Battlegrounds Mobile India have crossed the 20 million milestone on Google Play. For context, Battlegrounds Mobile India became available for pre-registrations on May 18 on Google Play, and within a day crossed the 7.5 million pre-registrations milestone.
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our Indian fans for their overwhelming response to the Battlegrounds IP first developed by me and my team in 2017,” said Krafton CEO CH Kim in a press release celebrating the milestone. “The Battlegrounds IP received love and acclaim from players worldwide, and Krafton will continue to build on the IP. That effort includes bringing amazing content to Battlegrounds Mobile India and providing an incomparable battle royale experience to our players.”
Sadly, despite the milestone and celebration, Krafton hasn’t yet revealed the release date for Battlegrounds Mobile India. Esports insiders, however, indicate that Krafton might be getting ready for a launch on June 18. As is the case with all rumours, however, we would recommend taking this one with a grain of salt. It does, however, fall in line with IGN India’s sources telling us that it would be launched in June. Krafton has also not mentioned pre-registrations or a release date for Battlegrounds Mobile India on iOS.
Leading up to the much-anticipated launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India, the game has been the subject of much controversy. With Indian politicians calling for a ban of the game, a few PUBG Mobile YouTubers were caught making racist comments against Arunachal Pradesh MLA Ninong Ering. While the Indian esports scene has been speaking out against the racism, with one team dropping a player that made racist comments, Krafton itself has been quiet about the matter.
